Why Mind Renewal?

2 Corinthians 5:17

  • A renewed mind results in newness of life.

1 Thessalonians 5:23

  • We are spirit, soul, and body. Our soul consists of our mind, will, and emotions. We must make a choice to renew our minds. Our Spirit is reborn in Christ, but our soul must be renewed.

John 3:5-6 & 1 Corinthians 6:17

  • In Christ we are joined and united with God. When we are born of the Spirit, we are a new creation. It is only our spirit that communes with God.

John 4:24 & 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

  • We are not our own. We were bought with the blood of Jesus. God owns our spirit.

Our Body

John 6:63

  • We receive life from the Spirit, our flesh offers no benefit.

2 Corinthians 3:18

  • Our Spirit is saved by Grace, our body is not. Our soul is being progressively transformed into the image of God.

Matthew 26:41

  • Our body gives us contact with the world. Our body has desires and cravings. When our body is in pain, it alerts our soul and spirit of its need.

Romans 6:12-13

  • There should be a time in every Christ follower’s life that they made the decision to offer themselves to God.

Romans 8:11-13

  • God will awaken our mortal bodies, if we believe what He placed within us. We are to live be the power of Holy Spirit.

Our Soul

Romans 6:6

  • Our soul reasons, considers, and wonders. Our soul wars with our spirit. Traditions of man, unbelief, and doubt live in the soul and need to be uprooted by the word and spirit of God. This is part of the mind renewal process.

Proverbs 15:28 & Proverbs 4:23 & Proverbs 16:2 & Proverbs 23:7

  • Our soul (heart) is where our decisions are made. We are to watch over our heart because as a man thinks he is. What we decide in our heart, we do. So, if we decide in our heart that we want Jesus, we will seek and find Him. The LORD knows the heart of every man.

Matthew 6:20-21 & Luke 12:29-34

  • What do we treasure? Do we treasure what is of the world or of God? It is God’s pleasure to give us the Kingdom.  We should seek after that which is Spirit because that is where moths and thieves cannot touch.

John 3:5-7

  • We have ALL of God in us. When we become a new creation, The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit move in our spirit and the renovation within us begins.

Ephesians 4:20-24

  • Mind renewal is putting off the old self and putting on the new. God gives us an untarnished mental and spiritual attitude 24/7. The result is a life of holiness and gratitude.

John 14:26 and Romans 12:1-2, 12

  • Mind renewal cannot be successful on our own, but only by walking with the Spirit of God. It is our act of worship to give to God all of ourselves: our soul and body (even with its imperfections).

Mind Renewal

A renewed mind will think like God. It will see everything from a biblical perspective. It is the restoration of mental faculties – God restoring us to His original plan at creation.

John 14:12

  • The greater work is saving souls.

Matthew 17:19-20 & Matthew 21:18-22

  • Unbelief is believing not only lies, but also half-truths.

3 Things that stop the greater work in our lives are:

1. Unbelief

2. Traditions of man

3. Our choices

Romans 4:20-21

  • Are we fully persuaded?

Hebrews 3:12 & Romans 1:18-22 & Matthew 17:19-20

  • Unbelief turns us away from God! Unbelief is the opposite of faith. Faith sees people as God sees people and treats people as God treats people.

Psalm 86:11

  • God is supernatural and faith is supernatural. God give us a measure of faith to believe!

Romans 10:10

  • We have the ability to walk a sinless life.

Mark 7:4-8 & Mark 7:9-13

  • God is not pleased with religious traditions. God wants our heart. Be careful to test that traditions/ religious thinking does not willfully ignore the authority of God. It is good to check/test the beliefs that you were taught growing up.

James 1:5-8 & Philippians 2:5

  • Choice resides in our soul. We will always choice what is most important to us. When we walk in the Spirit, we will do what is most important to God. We should make it a priority to memorize scripture and saturate our minds with God’s Word.

Proverbs 21:23, 18:21 & 1 Corinthians 14:4 & 2 Corinthians 10:3-5

  • [Power of our Speech/Tongue]

  • In our mind we can hear God’s voice, our voice, and the enemy’s voice. We need to learn to listen to God’s voice.

1 John 4:17

  • God is Love. We must let love take up residence within us – then fear is cast out. Jesus had compassion and he healed in love and compassion for people. We must walk in love of God and compassion for others.

Psalm 34:8 & Psalm 119:99 & James 1:22 & John 16:13-14 &Proverbs 16:3

  • We must consume the word of God until it consumes us.

Hebrews 4:12

  • As we read Gods word, we are transformed and renewed, and miracles can happen.

Joshua 1:8-9 & Psalm 1:1-3 & Psalm 77:12 & Psalm 119: 1- 16

  • Keep the word of God in alive in your heart and wherever you go The LORD will go.

Jeremiah 29:11-14 & Psalm 139: 1-2, 13-18, 23-24 & Psalm 103: 1-22

  • Do you seek to know the thoughts of God?

1 Corinthians 2:24 & 1 Corinthians 2:15-16

The 4 pillars of Mind Renewal are:

1.       Read the Word

2.       Consume the word.

3.       Believe the word

4.       Act on the word.

The 4 aspects of Mind Renewal are:

1.       Focus

2.       Frequency/ consistency

3.       Repetition

4.       Meditation

Instruction:

You have been provided with much scripture over these past few weeks. Choose two scriptures. Write them out on an index card. Every morning read the verses out loud as you wake up. Read them slowly. Read them throughout the day. On the second day, work to memorize the scriptures. On the third day, add a new scripture about the same subject and repeat the process.

Mind renewal is a transformative process and a choice.

The Champion's House gathers every Saturday at 10:00.

Consider joining us as we continue to grow in Christ and fellowship with one another.
